Yesterday morning I had a super interesting online coaching session with a horn player.
I know that sounds a bit weird- but hear me out.
In my previous life I was a brass band musician, that's where I learned a lot of what I know about music, and a good chunk of what I know about singing.
We were talking about the importance of having a strong tongue to help your notes sound nice and crisp.
The best (and most fun!) way I know to do that is doing a tongue twister or two as part of your warm up.
Every week in our free Facebook group we have Tongue Twister Tuesday, where I pick my favourite one from our studio that week. Here's the one I shared yesterday, a classic:
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers that Peter Piper picked?
It's completely ridiculous, and a lot of fun to try with kids. So give it a try and let me know how you get on :)
Remember- with a good strong consonant at the front, your high notes will soar along much more easily.
